My Secret Bedtime Practice

Years ago when I was working in corporate America, I once made a huge mistake that cost the company alot money.

My boss was furious. Previously I would have taken on her anger and hung my head in shame, but I was determined to go about this a different way.

At the end of the day, on my way home from work I stopped to pick up a bottle of Veuve Clicquot and some fine chocolate.

When I arrived home, my then-husband curiously asked “Wow! What are we celebrating?”

“We are celebrating that I learned so much about myself today. We are celebrating that I am human and mistakes happen and it’s ok. Tonight we are celebrating mistakes!”

As we enjoyed a beautiful meal and fine champagne I could feel my cells literally rearranging as I chose to celebrate my mistake rather than punish myself.

Because of the act of celebration, my body somatically read this experience DIFFERENTLY. According to my body’s perception, mistakes were a good thing. If mistakes resulted in champagne and chocolate, why not make more of them?

Celebration can turn what feels like a speed bump into a launch pad.

Every night, when the day is done, I have a buddy I text back and forth with and we share what we’re celebrating. She is my Amie de Fête. (Translation: Celebration Friend.)

It usually goes something like this:

Notice how these are not on the scale of “I created world peace” or “I finished my dissertation today.”

The simpler the celebration the better.

PRACTICE: Share this blog with someone you’d like to be your Amie De Fête. Call, text, or email your celebrations every day for a week. There is a specific magic that happens when you celebrate with another person. Try it for yourself and see how it feels.

And, if you’d like access to an entire community of Amie De Fêtes who are there to celebrate your victories and missteps all as part of the path to greatness, join us in The School of Sensual Living Membership Community.

No matter what mistakes you’ve made, no matter how big they’ve been, I raise my glass to you.

Learning and Loving my friend. That’s all we’re here for. If you’ve done either today, you’ve won.

All my love,

Mary
